Last time we heard from the WTCC, it had devolved into a shitshow. Unfortunately, it seems like the new regulations have done nothing to improve the driver's starting ability. Polesitter Tom Coronel kept moving across local driver Mehdi Bennani until Bennani ran out of track and was forced to turn Coronel. Coronel rammed into the wall before bouncing across the track and getting collected by world champion Yvan Muller.
Coronel's Chevy Cruze and Muller's Citroën C-Elysée were both totaled and unable to take the restart after the ensuing red flag. Bennani's Honda Civic was given a drive-through penalty, giving the lead and eventual win to Citroën's Sébastien Loeb.
