Two rounds remain in the 2013 V8 Supercars Championship, and the penultimate event takes place at the second best race track in Australia. It can only be Phillip Island, a circuit with high speed corners, elevation change, and a deep history in both motorcycle and car racing.
Although eight drivers remain mathematically in contention for the Australian Touring Car Championship, only the top four have a realistic shot. Red Bull Racing Australia's Craig Lowndes leads by six points over stablemate Jamie Whincup, while Pepsi Max Crew Ford Performance Racing's Mark Winterbottom and Will Davison lie 88 and 121 points behind respetively. All four contenders have been on the top step of the podium at Phillip Island, but title leader Lowndes has more than anyone else, with an impressive 9 wins to his credit at the world famous circuit.
This Sargent Security 360 will see the final ever 60/60 supersprint race, as the format will be axed for the 2014 season. With a high speed turn one, the double file rolling restart could cause chaos that all championship contenders will need to avoid to stay within reach for the Sydney finale. Rain is also predicted for this weekend and could cause the top four headaches as they struggle to maximize points against their rivals.
Here is a video made by V8 Supercars to promote the event. The Sargent Security 360 at Phillip Island can be seen live on V8 Superview.
